A four wheel drive is often something that you can’t replace. When you spend hours and hours on your vehicle getting it to the stage where money can’t replace it, you want to ensure that it is insured properly, and for a good value. If your four wheel drive has a number of modifications on it, make sure that they are all mentioned on the agreement, and that your vehicle is insured for what it is really worth, or even more. Insuring your car for a few thousand more hardly costs you anything, but its well worth it when you have several thousand dollars of modifications done to the vehicle.

Market value is something that I like to steer clear of because usually its much lower than what you would expect. If you have a bull bar, rear bar, stereo, lift kit and some larger tires the value will be considerably different, and in the case of an accident you will be left with less money than you realize. The other thing to be very aware of is where the vehicle is insured for. Some insurance companies insure only for sealed roads, whilst others will insure your car for anywhere and some companies will only pay out if you are on a legal four wheel drive track or four wheel drive.

Another very important point when getting four wheel drive insurance is to make sure that your vehicle is legal. In most parts of the world if your car is not 100% legal and the insurance company finds out, your insurance claim is void. This means if you smash into a 100k car and ruin it, you will have to pay for both your vehicle and the 100k car, along with any health damage as well. This is a serious subject, and as a result you want to put some serious time and effort into it. Having windscreen and glass cover is very handy for a four wheel drive, as these things break fairly regularly especially on gravel roads.
